Review by Frederick Barton (Cybersecurity Editor)

It's in our nature to be attracted by shiny things, which is why lighting effects can make a photo quite attractive. Although they can be created with a high-end or mid-range photo editor, lighting effects can be a breeze to create and adjust if you decide to use AKVIS LightShop. It places a broad range of pre-made lighting effects at your disposal, which you can apply on your images instantly and adjust them on the fly, to make them look like they belong in your pictures.

The software's trial version has a few restrictions, but nothing that would prevent you from making a relevant evaluation of its capabilities. Downloading and installing its components shouldn't take too long on a modern system. Furthermore, there is no need to meet any special requirements, so you can run the program right away.

The user interface may look a bit intimidating at a first glance, due to the large number of controls, but once you import a picture and experiment with the available options, you will see how easy it is to create and customize impressive lighting effects. You can browse through a rich effects library on the left side of the interface, where everything is categorized in collapsible lists. From simple objects to complex effects, with glare and lens flares, and even alien tractor beams, you can apply anything on your photos by simply double-clicking it in the library.

You can move and resize the entire effect, regardless of how many components it has, directly in the preview area, by clicking and dragging. Furthermore, the software lets you adjust individual components in a given effect. The elements are listed on the right side of the window, where you can also find a series of sliders for changing scale, shifting, rotating, modifying brightness, colors and other aspects of a selected element. In other words, you can make the lens flare or part of it, the halo or other parts of an effect look however you want, without affecting something you don't want to touch.

Making a picture sunnier, adding a star into a space photo or adding Sci-Fi elements are just a few ways AKVIS LightShop can help you make your photos shine.

Pros

You can add lighting effects to your pictures without any effort. The software lets you adjust the added effects or part of them on the fly. LightShop lets you choose from a wide variety of effects.

Cons

LightShop's effects are impressive, but in the end, you have to pay for a program that's designed for one specific purpose.
